FRESHINDEX PROJECT ENTERS NEXT STAGE: REQUIREMENTS PHASE CONCLUDED
We are proud to announce that the FreshIndex project has entered the next project phase.
During the last months, have been busy accessing the necessary requirements for the FI. We came up with a comprehensive traceability study that paves the way for the integration of our sensor data as a worldwide standard, a Virtual Supply Chain that generates data for our food models and at least two suppliers that are willing to support the further development of the FI.
Drawing conclusions at our second consortium meeting at METRO in Cologne, we agreed that a co-creative approach as well as a frequent and transparent communication with stakeholders such as customers and suppliers will be crucial for project to succeed.
TSENSO REPRESENTS FRESHINDEX AT EU HIGH LEVEL FOOD2030 CONFERENCE IN BULGARIA AND AT MAERSK IN DANMARK
On June 12th, half a year after the project start, we were invited to the first KMU-NetC Experience Exchange Meeting which took place at the German Ministry for Education and Research in Berlin. Along with 15 other projects, we presented the status quo of the FreshIndex and entered into vivid discussions over potential synergies or partnerships.
At the same time, tsenso CEO Matthias Brunner presented the FreshIndex in a Breakout Session on “How to strengthen competitiveness of food systems by 2030?” at the International Food 2030 Conference in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
Also, the FreshIndex has raised interest outside the wholesale segment. Tsenso was selected as part of the MAERSK FoodTrack program. During the programme, ten start-ups will work closely together with Maersk’s Fight Food Waste venture team and Rockstart’s Agrifood team, as well as a strong community of experts and mentors coming from both inside and outside the Maersk organization. The FoodTrack programme will end on July 6 with a Demo Day where the startups will pitch for an opportunity to receive funding and further collaborate with Maersk in the future.
BIO-DEGRADABLE PACKAGING INCREASES SHELF-LIFE FOR FRUITS
As both, the relevance of and the interest for sustainability and food quality rise, an increasing amount of companies commit themselves to the minimization of food waste. One good example is Liquidseal, a company from the Netherlands that produces an ultralight, bio-degradable packaging for fruit. The product comes as a liquid that surrounds the fruit and thereby regulates the level of oxygen and evaporation resulting in a longer shelf-life than usual. As a result, the loss during the transport of e.g. from Thailand to Europe could be reduced by 20 percent.
MEET THE PROJECT PARTNERS: arconsis
During the first months of the FreshIndex project we identified the availability of serialized movement data in sufficient quantity and its linking to sensor data as a potential risk. Therefore we focused our development effort in the implementation of a highly configurable simulator of the required data. The “Virtual Supply Chain Simulator” (VSC) generates realistic data in real time and allows us to simulate exceptional events like cooling outage and loss of production. Therefore the VSC plays an important role in the further development of the FreshIndex algorithms and scalability optimization. The VSC already supports extensions points for the support of EPCIS events and Smart Contracts. For the design, implementation and further enhancement of the VSC arconsis works closely with its FreshIndex partners from tsenso, H-BRS and GS-1.
MEET THE FACES BEHIND: Achim Baier, arconsis
Achim is managing partner at arconsis. Within FreshIndex he is responsible for the work packages “API and system architecture” and “implementation of demonstration system”.
In addition to operational steering at arconsis Achim is also engaged in the identification and development of new business segments.
